Hopkins Correctional Centre, Ararat
Hurlcon supplied specifically modified Solazar natural convectors to meet the Department of Corrections safety standards.
The Hopkins Correctional Centre (HCC) provides medium-security accommodation for prisoners with protection requirements. HCC currently has single, double and triple-bed accommodation with an operational capacity of 388 prisoners, including a unit for aged and medically infirm prisoners.
The prison expansion of HCC once completed accommodated 732 prisoners with eight beds for offenders on continued detention. HCC is one of the first prisons in Victoria to combine community-style prison design with the Better Living Model, an innovative case management model for prisoner management.
Hurlcon Hydronic Heating have supplied specifically modified Solazar natural convectors to meet the Department of Corrections specifications and standards for the project's hydronic central heating system. The Solazar's low surface temperature and specially designed mesh grilles, make them a safe and robust form of hydronic heating for prison conditions.
With their low h2O heat exchangers the Solazars also offer overall energy savings. The convectors are also designed and made here in Australia.
